Should You Require a Reply?

A confirmation text that asks for a reply gets a reply on a meaningful share of jobs. Whether to require one is a judgment call. Forcing a "Reply C" before the appointment is on the books filters out the customers who weren't going to show up anyway. It also irritates the customers who don't reply for innocent reasons — they're at work, they don't text, they meant to and forgot.

A reasonable middle ground: ask for a reply, but treat silence as "still on." The customer who replies is gold — you know they're locked in. The customer who doesn't reply is most of your book. Punishing them with a cancellation because they didn't text back is its own form of missed revenue.
